As an acoustic guitarist and singer in The Skerries, Gavin Livingstone gained folk club, concert, radio and television experience at a young age. Adding mandolin, banjo, cittern and keyboards to his skills enhanced his reputation as a musician.
On teaming up with his brother Pete as Tonight at Noon, he embraced the technology of the time – synthesisers (he built his own in 1974!), sequencers and drum machines – to kick-start a new approach to folk music. They were once described as the Human League of folk! While perhaps ahead of their time, this approach proved fruitful, and has established Gavin’s innovative attitude to music.
Gavin’s first completely solo album, “Fire in the Snow”, blends the best of his acoustic and electronic talents with some fine singing and songwriting. The album will delight and surprise those who like something a little original and exciting in their music, while retaining the charm and depth of the folk idiom.
